Nevada tourism

There are hundreds of great things to do in Nevada. Gladys Perry, Mattie Holt, Suzanne Stephens and Thelma Fernandez got together and came up with a list of the best ones out there. From the recreational opportunities in Elko County, Nevada: named for the county seat of Elko, Nevada, named in turn for the herds of elk in the area to the quaint inns in Storey County, Nevada: named for Edward Fariss Storey, a captain killed at Pyramid Lake in the 1860 Paiute War with Native Americans here is the best of the best.

Natural Wonders:

The Southern Nevada Zoological-Botanical Park is a shady 3-acre park. The zoo exhibits over 150 species of plants and animals. This is a great spot for your family.

Shark Reef This aquarium not only has sharks, but monitor lizards and other creatures living in more than 1,000,000 gallons of salt water and other types of display at the Mandalay Bay Resort. You will see stingrays, eels and a jellyfish display with black lights.

The Sierra Safari Zoo displays animals in their natural habitats. Special tours and field trips are available. See lions, reptiles, parrots and other animals.

Thriller In The Desert

The Gondola Rides at the Venetian navigate the canals that go through the Grand Canal. Shops are located at the Venetian Hotel Casino. Reservations are required if you want a singing gondolier to take you on your journey. Sounds romantic!

The Bellagio Fountains off a visual water symphony choreographed to music. It provides an unforgettable memory in front of the Bellagio Hotel Casino. The water fountains span more than 1,000 feet and can shoot up to 240 feet in the air while seeming to dance to choreographed lights and romantic classical music.

Circus Circus Adventuredome Theme Park Grand Slam Canyon at Circus Circus is a dome-encompassed theme park. You will ride log rides, the roller coaster and bumper cars and play laser tag in a air-conditioned or heated environment.

Mystère (Treasure Island) is a Cirque du Soleil production. This is a smooth-flowing performance filled with comedy and with 72 acrobatics.

Heavenly Ski Resort is a world-class resort for winter sports. Skiing, snowboarding and intertubing is superb. The summer is perfect for horseback rides and all-terrain vehicles.

Nevada is full of history as well. You will want to consider trips to Death Valley not only for the gold mining, Scotties Castle and twenty mule team borax mines but for the unique geology as well.

If you want to really get away, Nevada offers many remote sites that are great to get totally lost (be sure to mark your trail!) such as Wee Thump Joshua Tree Wilderness, Boundary Peak Wilderness or Wee Thump Joshua Tree Wilderness
